run, run, run!

wow! what a weekend of running. it was friday and i hadn't run since new year's day where i put down a 9.33 miler so i knew i needed to put down some serious miles this weekend to keep up with my challenges. what do ya know? i leave work on friday and it's raining cats and dogs. grrr...not again. i had just set up a new challenge to run 21 miles by sunday night. i HAD to run on friday. so the rain finally let up somewhat by 11PM so i headed out into the light rain/heavy drizzle with a full belly. we had huge burgers and fries for dinner at like 8 o'clock. i was still stuffed. but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to rack up them miles. so i ended up with a modest 5.63 miles. that would be enough to make the rest of the weekend manageable.

on saturday the sun actually came out! so i took advantage of that since i usually run in the dark. i ended up with 9.02 miles so just another six and half on sunday. well, i got up late today and the rain moved in. i totally wasn't gonna run tonight but i saw that pretty much everyone else in my challenge completed their 21+ miles so i HAD to do it. luckily, the rains let up a little tonight so i head out into the drizzle once again. i felt good tonight and ended up with 7.29 fast miles. so that puts me at 31.28 for the week!

i also just signed up for my first half-marathon! april 28th down in lousiville, kentucky (said in my best southern accent). this is one of the premier marathons/halfs in the country! we get to do about a mile on the infield of churchill downs! now how cool is that! the marathon is held a week before the kentucky derby and it's actually a two week festival down there. it should be cool!

as you can see i posted some of the races i'm planning on doing this year. it's modest, but hey, i'm not really a racer boy either. i just hope to stay healthy this year and do my best. and no, i will not be racing in any mudfests this year either. if it's raining or the course is muddy, i'm out!

ugh! back to work tomorrow. i had gotten used to this not working stuff...

it's about time!

okay, so i figured it's about fucking time i wrote. i can't believe it's been well over a month! the holidays have passed and it's a new frickin' year! can you believe it?! i've been meaning to write--i really have but just haven't had the motivation. i was planning on doing a year in review and all that but somehow went by the layside. um, i meant wayside.

so what's new with me? oh, you know, same old shit. me and my mental issues. yeah, mental issues. maybe it's just winter but i'm always depressed this time of year. it's not that bad though. really. so i had 12/23-01/02 off and guess what? i got sick on the morning of 12/23. yep, just my shit-ass luck. i've been coughing ever since. i'm still cough today. it's not as bad as jackie though. i think she's been coughing for over a month! but, that hasn't kept me from playing with my new toys! nope, they're not bike related either! if i wasn't so fucking lazy i'd post up some pics.
i finally got an mp3 player. i decided on an 4gb ipod nano. the only reason why i chose an ipod over another mp3 player is the compatibility with the nike+ system. if you're not familiar with the nike+ system go check it out and take it for a test run on their site. http://www.nike.com/nikeplus/
i was planning on getting a polar speed/distance watch with a foot pod for xmas but decided to get the ipod/nike+ instead. they're about the same price, plus i get a 4gb mp3 player on top of that, so the decision was easy. oh mah gawd the nike+ is sooooo cool! the coolest thing is that you can "challenge" other runners from around the world! There's over 70,000 current users so you can get literally hundreds of people in one challenge or you can challenge say 25 people who are similar to your own running abilities. it's unbelievably motivating. even while i was sick over vacation i managed to run over 50 miles. i've done numerous 8 and 9 milers...which are the longest runs i've ever done. unfortunately, after the new year, there were so many new users that nike's challenge site went down and is yet to return. good think there are a TON of other addicted runners like me out there who just can't wait for the site to come back up. how else can we get our fix?
so, needless to say i've turned into a runner! can you believe it! i'm really looking forward to doing the multisport events this year and hopefully all this running is gonna help me out. i guess this mild weather has helped too, but i think i'm ready to run in the cold this winter. i'm looking to increase my mileage from 25/week up to 35/week. i finally have a shoe/orthotic combination that actually works for longer runs. i'll keep my fingers crossed that they continue working because it sucks running in pain all the time!
i'm still planning on doing some sort of year in review post. there were lot's of noteworthy events that took place in 2006. but one lesson i did learn....I NEED TO STAY THE FUCK OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS!!!
